Dvorak was immensely popular in England, and several of the composer's greatest musical triumphs took place during his nine visits to Great Britain. As the English were far removed from the politics of the Austrian Empire, Dvorak was never exposed to any anti-Czech prejudice in England as was often the case in Vienna.
Of particular note was the commissioning of what would be Dvorak's 7th Symphony by the London Philharmonic Society, the same organization that commissioned Beethoven's 9th Symphony some sixty years earlier.
